Memorial Day weekend for many is the unofficial kick off the summer, and for much of the Inland Northwest it may have been the last shot at measurable rain.  Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said while it wasn’t great for your BBQ or outdoor plans, the cooler, cloudy rainy weather we saw over the weekend was great for dry portions of the Northwest, especially North Central Washington.

“Here in the eastern portion of the state every little drop counts, it seems like.  And so, it has helped also, the temperatures over the last week were much cooler than normal for a lot of the area, about one to two degrees cooler than normal, so that kind of combination of that and some showers and some clouds did refresh things quite a bit.”

But as quickly as those cooler temps and wetter conditions rolled in, Lohmann says they will move out, revealing extremely warm conditions.

“We’ll see highs go to about 10 to 15 degrees above normal with some 80's across the area and even a few 90's during the weekend.  So, quite the roller-coaster ride on temperatures continue for the region.”

Lohmann said the hot weather for June is just a taste of what we can expect this summer.  She said the long-term forecast is calling for above normal temperatures with normal precipitation.
