At last week’s Potato Expo in San Francisco, Forbes Magazine Publisher and columnist author Rich Karlgaard said there were two Megatrends that will be driving change to agriculture as well as other industries.  The first is the increase in the global population over the next three decades,, especially the growth in the middle class.

“One of the first things they want to do when they become middle class when the come from poverty is the want to improve their diets, they want more choice.  They want to eat out more.”

Another key driver the number of people who will move from rural locations to growing cities around the world.  Karlgaard says the growth of the technology sector is the second Megatrend.

“Which has already happened, sensors, drones, autonomous farm equipment that drive themselves, biotechnology that gives us more yield per water, per fertilizer, footprint,” Karlgaard added.
