Agriculture based advisory committees play a significant role of council for both the Ag Secretary, but also the U.S. trade representatives regarding trade matters.

"The negotiations of the US/Mexico/Canada agreement we were in close communication with the committees and with individual members of the committees with respect to their positions on the negotiations for their various sectors," according to the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service Administrator, Ken Isley. "And then ultimately they prepared a report in with they provided their support for entry in to the USMCA."

Isley said member appointments were made recently for both the Agricultural Advisory Committee, and the six commodity, or 'sector specific' agricultural technical committees.

"We tried to look at membership and provide that balance in terms of expertise and geographic representation."
