How Hard Will GOP Push Current Farm Bill Proposal

Last week, during a meeting at the White House on the Farm Bill, President Trump brought in Ag Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, and Senate Chairman Pat Roberts.  Before that meeting, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue told reporters the President wanted to to talk to the committee members about their plans for the farm bill in light of Democrats vowing to fight it if it contains new work requirements for SNAP recipients.

"If that's where they want to put the marker, then I think it will be to their detriment. I think the President feels that way as well, l and looks forward to some form of work requirements in the Farm Bill," said Purdue.

If a bill coming to the President does not have those work requirements, would the President veto the legislation?

"It's way too early in the process to talk about any kind of potential veto threats," said Purdue.

The full house isn't scheduled to debate the bill until perhaps later this week.

The bill isn't even out of committee yet.
