The House Agriculture Committee held seven Farm Bill listening sessions this year with the goal of hearing what farmers and commodity groups are looking for in the next Farm Bill.  Ranking House Democrat Collin Peterson said they heard from people in a lot of different ag sectors.

“I think we heard about everything that there was to hear.  And as you can expect, there’s a significant amount of people asking for money in the last couple of months.  And the problem is the budget we’ve been given is a flat lined budget, so there is no new money available.”

He added it’s going to be a challenge to figure out how to fund all the programs producers need to succeed.

“And frankly are not, we haven’t gotten this figured out yet, but the staff is now engaged for about two weeks.  They are working, Republican and Democrats staff to deal with the kind of technical things,” Peterson noted.
