High Pressure Brings Summer Like Conditions To Inland Northwest

We have 37 days until the first day of summer, but you wouldn’t know it with the very warm weather we’ve seen across the Inland Northwest over the past couple of days.  Marilyn Lohmann, meteorologist with the National Weather Service said temperatures about been 15-plus degree above average over much of the past week.

“We had a very large area of high pressure move over the region, we had a brief break from it last week, in the Thursday and Friday time frame, but then the high rebuilt again, with the really warm temperatures back on us over the weekend, and early this week.”

She said last week, the area was fortunate to receive  rain, some locations reported receiving up to a 1/2” of rain.

“Soil moisture remains near to above normal in Washington, northern Oregon continues to see some of those dryer conditions however.  And then soil temperatures are up about 6-7 degrees over last week, and they are currently in the 60s and 70s, so, no problem with the seed germination and growth at that point.”

Lohman expects a few showers to roll into the area late Wednesday into Thursday, but drying out into the weekend.  She noted those needing to spray should hold off until this weekend, or early next week when the high pressure will rebuild and stabilize the air.
