Group Looks To Encourage Kids To Join Ag
A movement looking to sweep the county, including the Northwest, is trying to promote farm and other plant based jobs. The non-profit Seed Your Future is offering an upcoming event called Green Career Week. The goal is to reach the next generation of professionals to increase awareness of green industry careers like those in agriculture, and build relationships with local schools, colleges and universities. It’s expected that horticulture related industries will have hundreds of job vacancies in the years to come.
Jazmin Albarran, Executive Director of Seed Your Future, said the industry is encouraged to set up field trips or visit a classroom.
“And talk to those teachers and students about your company, your company culture, what jobs require a degree, which ones don't you have internships again? We want these students to be aware of all of these employers that are right in their backyard.”
She added there is a seemingly endless list of green career opportunities.
“You have those jobs that are growing the plant, but you can be a lawyer in this industry. You can sell insurance and your graphic designer. You can be a social media manager.”
Green Career week kicks off September 30th.
