Now, through August 1st, the FSA is accepting nominations for the County Committee Elections.  Rod Hamilton with the Washington FSA told the Washington Ag Network they are looking for farmers of any walk of life interested in representiting agriculture in their county.

“[People] who has some experience in the area.  Although we are certainly glad to have young farmers get on the committee these days, also.  But just someone who is knowledgeable about agriculture in the area and is willing to make a bit of a time commitment."

Hamilton added Committee meetings typically take place once a month.  He said this beneficial for growers who feel their voice is often not heard.

“So much of federal farm policy is driven by regions east of here.  But it is again, an opportunity for those folks to come in and take a look at things, and try to figure out the best way to implement the programs in their region for things that work in their areas.”

Hamilton said many issues, such as limited moisture make farming the Northwest a unique challenge.  To nominate an individual, visit your local FSA office.  The deadline to apply is August 1st.
