WSU’s Fruit School will focus on organic controls of pest and disease this year.

Tianna Dupont said producers will get the opportunity to go in-depth into topics, discuss ideas with researchers and industry leaders and they’ve also added hands-on activities this year.

“Organic is a very much growing area. Washington is one of the leaders in the nation for organic fruit production, so we’re really excited to be able to focus in this area.”

The primary location will be in Wenatchee, but there will be satellite campus options in Omak and Prosser for the event on March 14th and 15th.

Dupont said this year’s topic is a direct result of input from growers.

“Organic came up out of a needs assessment that we conducted this spring with growers across North Central Washington and the specific topics, so specific insects and diseases that are covered were ones that those growers rated as highly important.”

Pesticide credits will be offered, though the final amount is still to be determined.
