Last week, the House of Representatives defeated a conservative immigration bill which had provision to help farm operators more easily find workers.  Lawmakers postponed a vote on a compromise bill, one that did not have any farm worker provisions.  Central Washington's Dan Newhouse says there is still a chance for getting a new farmworker system.

"Chairman Goodlatte of the House Judiciary Committee has been a steadfast advocate for reforming the system over the years, and I'm heartened by the commitment by the Speaker as well as the Majority Leader, has given to me and others, for a stand-alone vote on agricultural workforce legislation."

Newhouse says that commitment is to have a vote before the August recess.
