Farm Town Strong Campaign Launched to Fight Opioid Epidemic
The American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Farmers Union have joined forces to launch what they’re calling the “Farm Town Strong” campaign designed to fight the opioid epidemic.
The push comes after a survey by the groups saw the devastating impact that opioid abuse has had on farmers and farm workers.
AFBF President Zippy Duvall said rural America has been harder than the country as a whole and that, “It’s going to take everyone working together to combat this crisis to make a difference.”
NFU President Roger Johnson said, “The lack of services, treatment and support exacerbates the issue in rural areas, and the negative stigma associated with addiction makes it hard for farmers to discuss the problem.”
The two groups created a website that provides access to information and resources to help struggling farmers at FarmTownStrong.org.
