The 2019 American Farm Bureau Foundation Book of the Year is “Right This Very Minute".  This picture book is intended to be used as an education tool to teach young children from where our food comes.  Author Lisl H. Detlefsen said the book helps children understand the hard work farmers and ranchers do to produce our food, through colorful, engaging pictures.

“And it’s important for kids to get to see what farming looks like and understand where their food comes from so they can appreciate that the journey to their table doesn’t start at the grocery store, it actually starts on a farm where very hard-working people are using really interesting machines to make it possible for them to have their meals.”

Detlefsen added the idea for the book came to her at the dinner table.

“Right This Very Minute was a project that started when I was thinking about while my family was eating our meal, at that exact time, there were other family farmers around the country working hard to grow the food that would end up on my table. And I was thinking that would make a really interesting book to go back and forth between here is the meal that you are eating right now, and at that same time, somewhere around the country there’s a farmer working hard to make that food possible.”
