Dry Weather Continues Into Fall

While temperatures across the region have dropped considerably over the past couple of weeks, we remain very dry.  Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said the 2017-18 water year was not kind to the Inland Northwest.

“Much of the Columbia Basin is ending the water year with only 50% to 75% of normal precipitation.  Northern Washington did much better with near normal precipitation, but then they unfortunately had those spring flooding problems to deal with.”

Lohmann expects the above average temperatures and below normal precipitation to continue for the foreseeable future.

“Kind of a stagnate weather pattern overall set up with a big blocking high off the coast of northern Canada, so that’s sort of influencing our weather for the next week or so.  So, unfortunately warm and dry.”

Lohmann adds the long range forecast calls for dry and warm conditions throughout much of the fall, thanks to the development of El Niño off the coast of South America.
