Dry Weather Continues Across the Northwest

For those still harvesting the weather has been wonderful, but for the rest of the Ag community looking for some rain, the weather pattern has been frustrating.  Marilyn Lohmann, meteorologist with the National Weather Service says the Northwest has been under the influence of strong high pressure for weeks.  She said that has moved many of the showers bound for the Northwest north into Canada.

“A little bit of Northwest flow, the mountains are getting a few showers, but unfortunately we’re all kind of rain shadowed out it, and not getting a lot in the basins, and the areas where we really do need a lot of rain.”

Lohmann says that Northwest flow could lead to snow showers in the Northern Cascades.  Speaking of snow, while we’ve seen temperatures across the Inland Northwest well above average over the past couple of days, Lohmann says that’s all coming to an end in the coming days.

“Normal highs in the 40s and 50s, but we’ll see some much chillier nights, or they’ll feel chillier with lows in the mid-20s to low-30s.  We really haven’t seen those cold temperatures over the wide spread area, and it may cause a few concerns for people that haven’t gotten some sprinkler lines or above ground sprinklers blown out, those types of things.”
