With the FAA releasing rules for the use of commercial drones this week

“There is a certainty that UAV operations are here to stay in the United States, and agriculture can benefit," said Idaho farmer Robert Blair, who also owns a high tech company called Measure.

He told the House Ag Committee this week, that from his own experience with drones, they can provide a long list of benefits to farmers.

“With today’s low commodity prices and tighter margins, UAVs can help reduce costs increase productivity and turn precision agriculture into surgical agriculture.”

But he noted those low commodity prices are keeping many farmers from investing in drone technology.  He said, flat out, it’s hard to sell, and many active farmers don’t understand the potential benefit of drones.  Blair added another challenging making it difficult to sell the ide of drones to farmers, the lack of high speed internet in rural America.
