A little known provision in the tax code could help rural residents save a little money on their taxes, or get more money in their return.

 

It’s called the Earned Income Tax Credit and it allows low-income people who worked to get a credit for each dollar they earned.

 

Ohio State University Extension Consumer Policy Expert, Lauren Jones says there are still many who miss out.

“Somewhere around 40 percent of the people who are eligible for the credit don’t actually end up claiming it.”
