It’s a growing concern for many in the agriculture community, availably of inputs critical for operations in 2022. Kevin Thorsness, technical service manager at Bayer Crop Science said supply chain issues remain top of mind for most, if not all, in the industry.

“Product availability in some situations, there may be some challenges, and we’re doing everything we can at Bayer to get product move into the right locations and make sure we have it available to growers.  I would encourage growers if they know they are going to need a certain product from Bayer to purchase it as soon as they can and have it on hand.  Now, we don’t want to encourage hording.  We want you to purchase only what you can utilize.”

Thorsness cautioned potato growers, while it may seem like a good way help to stretch products when they are not readily available, it’s not a good idea to reduce the rate or ratio of those key products.

“We’ve seen a lot of situations where resistance can develop and the surest way to develop resistance is by reducing a rate or a lower than recommended rate of any given product.  So we want to caution against that too.”
