Direct File Returns For 2025
An estimated 640,000 Oregonians will be allowed to use free software to file their income taxes this year. Oregon is joining the IRS in making the Direct File software available. Robin Maxey, with the Oregon Department of Revenue, said it's not for everyone.
"The best way for people to figure out whether or not they can use the system is to go to the IRS website and search for the eligibility checker. You'll answer a few quick questions and they'll know whether they can use the free service."
Maxey said events at libraries around the state are scheduled for those who are eligible but need help.
"Volunteers with the Department of Revenue are going out to 17 different communities across the state in February, March and April to assist taxpayers in using the free combination of IRS Direct File and Direct File Oregon to complete their returns."
You can find a list of the events on the Oregon Department of Revenue Website. If you attend one of those events, you'll need to bring I-D and tax documents including W2 and 1099 forms.
