Less than four months remain before the current Farm Bill expires.  Will Congress get a new Farm Bill passed, before September 30th?  That effort hit a major stumbling block last month, with the Republican led Farm Bill Proposal, House Resolution 2 rejected.  Many, including  Representative Dan Newhouse say that failure was not about the legislation, but about immigration reform.

“We are working very hard every day to resolve the immigration issue, and I’m confident that given another opportunity the Farm Bill will pass,” Newhouse said.

The goal for House Republicans is to vote on the legislation during the week of June 18th.  While he is confident H.R. 2 will clear the house later this month, Newhouse said challenges remain working with the Senate.

“They have to get their bill through, and then we’ll go to conference, so, we still have a lot of work to do over the summer, before the September deadline."
