We told you earlier this summer about USDA’s crop acreage reporting pilot that was tested in 12 FSA county offices.  Well, now that program is expanding nationwide.

“Just last month, we cut over every county office to be able to utilize, use, and to accept acreage reports under the new system," said Farm Production and Conservation Under Secretary Richard Fordyce.  "So, now every county in the country has the ability to do that.  They will be converting their acreage reporting to the new system.”

Fordyce added the geospatial mapping platform will cross over all three FPAC mission area agencies.

“So that we are reporting acres, we are doing our risk management, we're doing our conservation,” he noted.

Fordyce said producers will first engage in the new mapping and reporting system through their local FSA office, inputting data that will be utilized as an interface for both growers and USDA office staff.

The nationwide system is now available for acreage reporting of fall planted crops.
