County yield estimates will be coming out Thursday and they’re used by several different groups, for example the ARC program.

USDA Chief Economist Rob Johannson said that’s why it’s critical they hear from farmers.

“NASS needs a minimum of 30 responses per county per crop in order to develop an estimate. They can go less than 30 observations if the observations they get add up to more than 25 percent of the commodity area grown in that county just so that they can be assured that they are getting a statistically significant estimate.”

Additional data can be used from December acreage reports and row crop reports if necessary.
