Starting this fall, Corban University will offer students an Ag Science Degree program. Dr. Susie Nelson, director of Corban’s Ag Program, said the school has seen strong applications and enrollment in the program ahead of its inaugural year. She noted while the degree program may be new for the fall of 2022, the groundwork for the Ag Science degree got its start five years ago with current students as well as the neighboring farming community around the Salem area.

“We already have a great school of business here at Corban and so what we did three years ago, was added an Ag business concentration to that existing degree, and that included some Ag sales, Ag marketing, those types of classes to our business degree, which seemed very well received by the students and then they continued that to the Ag Science degree.”

Nelson noted the curriculum will meet the demands for a more immersive and hands on approach to meeting modern problems in farming, such as reducing pollution and carbon footprints. She also noted Corban’s main objective is to educate Christians how to impact the world for Jesus Christ, which sets them apart from other Ag education programs across the region.

“This is another great opportunity for students to learn about agriculture, but we can do it from a creation perspective and a Christ perspective.  And so that’s a very unique opportunity that really, students don’t have anywhere else in the Pacific Northwest.”

Corban recently announced that 2021-2022 Oregon FFA President Isabel D’Acquisto has enrolled in the Ag Science program for this fall.
