Cooler and Potentially Wetter Weather Just Around the Corner

The first day of Fall is less than ten days away, but some locations across the Inland Northwest will start feeling very autumn like in the coming days.  Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service said the jet stream, which has been well north of our area will dip south, allowing for cooler temperatures and perhaps some precipitation.  Hull said starting Wednesday, temperatures will cool roughly 15 degrees.  The next question is when are we going to get some significant rain to relieve the fire danger and help the soil moisture.

“And it does look like the jet stream is going to bring in the first weather system in on Sunday night and Monday.  Rainfall amounts less than a quarter of an inch expect maybe a quarter to a half an inch in the Cascades and Blue Mountains.”

With these cooler daytime temperatures lows are expected to start dropping around the region.  While it will be cooler during the overnight, Hull says he’s not expecting a hard freeze anytime soon, but we could see some frosty areas.

“Some of the local areas, you get down into some of the normal frost pockets, they might have some frost, maybe not a hard freeze, but at least a frost pocket on some of the mornings where it clears off and the wind die down.”

Hull added this cooler, wetter weather will help dial back on irrigation needs.
