Commodity Prices Drop Over 6% From December To January
USDA is out with its agricultural prices report for the month of January, and the numbers show a dip in what producers received for their commodities.
The 6.7% month-over-month decrease in the crop production index was the main contributor to a 3.9% reduction in the overall agricultural prices received index. Lower prices received for fruit and tree nut growers at 10% and vegetable and melon producers at 6.3% more than offset slight price increases grain and oil seed producers received for their commodities.
The latest prices received index for livestock producers showed a 0.1% rise from the prior month. A 6.7% increase in what meat animal growers received price-wise was more than enough to offset an almost 8% reduction in the price received by dairy producers.
And an 11% decrease in what poultry and egg farmers received price-wise in January.
