Recent cold weather hit the Northwest and other parts of the country, but USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey said the impact have been muted.

For wheat producers, the snow that fell prior to the sub-freezing temperatures helped, according to Rippey.

“At least at this early stage we’re hopeful that most of the crop weathered the bitter cold in reasonably good shape.”

Rippey noted that for ranchers and farmers, particularly across the Northern portion of the U.S., they’ve had challenges.

“It’s been a tough month, some sustained cold weather there but the cold has backed off in the last couple of days. We are looking at some more wintry weather heading through the rest of the month.”

Including some snow this weekend which should allow for a white Christmas.
