Cold Dry Weather Expected For Foreseeable Future

It’s a doubled edged sword here in the Northwest during the winter.  Clear days produce beautiful sunshine, but also lead to cold, and sometime bitterly cold nights.  Marilyn Lohmann, meteorologist with the National Weather Service said that’s what we can expect in to the foreseeable future.

“As that ridge continues to strengthen throughout the next week, we’ll probably see see increasing areas of fog and low clouds and we’ll also see that inversion strengthen with air stagnation increasing as well.”

Lohmann told the Washington Ag Network the dry weather is expected to stick around for the rest of December, but we could see fog develop in several locations across the Inland Northwest.

“You know, the sunshine’s great where it’s at right now, some of the low elevations along the main stem rivers, the Columbia River, are seeing some fog, and that will continue to grow and increase but you know if you’re up just a little bit from that, we’ll still have a few more sunny days.”

Lohmann said as the month continues La Nina is expected to strengthen which could bring rain and snow showers in the new year.
