Citing costs and a lack of pay out, some dairy producers have asked for changes in the dairy Margin Protection Program, and now they are seeing results.  Agriculture Department Chief Economist Rob Johansson said in the brand new federal spending bill, MPP was adjusted.

"By raising the floor on that margin program from $4.00 to $5.00, and also lowering premium costs on the lower part of that and raising the amount of milk that producers can insure under that lower tier in the first place."

Johansson said the MPP was going to be up for an overhaul in the upcoming farm bill, but now these changes will make the process easier for lawmakers.

"There is a little bit more of the budget to work with if they want to make further changes to that program."

Another item that changed in the program, potential payments can now be calculated every month, not every other month.
