After an active week of winter like weather, the first full week of winter will see a calmer and dryer weather pattern.  Dennis Hull with the National Weather Service said many locations across the region enjoyed a large dumping of snow over the past week, anywhere from 5” to over 10”.

Hull told the Washington Ag Network the recent storms have been a great benefit in the higher elevations.

“All the watershed basins now are reporting over 100%.  In face the Walla Walla Basin is 128%, the lower Yakima 133%, and up into the Grande Ronde and Umatilla 120%.  Everyone’s doing really well.”

Hull added those are some of the best snow numbers reported for this time of year.As far as the week ahead, Hull says the Inland Northwest will see colder weather with a chance of rain and snow showers this weekend; but he noted temperatures will not be as bitterly cold as last weekend.  Hull said the biggest impact this winter weather will have on Northwest producers, making travel and truck deliveries more challenging, especially on county roads that don’t see snow plows very often.
