Dawn Caldwell, who with her husband Matt runs a cow-calf operation in South Central Nebraska, is the new chair of the Federation of State Beef Councils, elected by her peers at the 2018 Cattle Industry Convention this past month.

“I’m not one who can sit on the sidelines, so I jumped in, whether it was interviewing for operating committee early on, or participating in other committees, evaluation committee I sat on for a period of time, still do actually today.  I served as the representative to U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance for the Federation of State Beef Councils.”

Caldwell said she took on the role because she believes in doing what she can to help make the Beef Checkoff Program successful.

“As a person who comes from an operation that isn’t huge in the eyes of some but is very large in the eyes of others, I want to do what I can to contribute to all of the beef community, and this is one way I can serve and do well for myself and my neighbors.”

The Federation of State Beef Councils is a division of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, which is a contractor to the Beef Checkoff Program.  The beef checkoff is overseen by volunteer checkoff payers on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, with final approval of projects provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
