Illegal burning costs three Grant and Adams County producers a few thousand dollars in fines to the Washington State Department of Ecology.

The DOE released their fines for the first quarter of 2017 and it included one producer in Othello who was fined $3,000 for burning without a permit and burning illegal materials. Two producers in Royal City were fined $2,000 each for burning illegal materials, one of the two for burning without a permit and the other for burning on a day when burning wasn’t allowed.

According to Ecology, penalties are issued in cases where non-compliance continues after Ecology has provided technical assistance or warnings, or for particularly serious violations.
