Researchers at WSU have captured a significant amount of brown marmorated stink bugs in Yakima County in recent weeks which indicates a significant increase in the pest.

Oregon State University Vaughn Walton said this is not uncommon with this pest.

“They’re very dispersive. They have the ability to fly long distances in very short periods of time.”

There were more than 200 bugs caught in Yakima County after only 36 in all of 2015.

WSU Extension is looking to get examples of stink bugs, and Walton has instructions on how to capture or manage the pest on the OSU website.

““It gives people the details as to where to get the traps, where to get the lures, how to set the traps up, which compounds to use, what the damage looks like, when you can expect certain types of symptoms, when you can expect the bugs to become a problem.”
