Attendees of the Eastern Washington Agricultural Expo can become certified in the Beef Quality Assurance program during a workshop Wednesday, January 4th.

WSU Regional Livestock Specialist Don Llewllyn said the voluntary program is all about providing education to cow/calf producers on best practices.

“Prevent drug residues in beef, increase awareness of food safety and humane animal care. All the while improving consumer confidence in beef products.”

At the end of the two-hour workshop, the participants will take a quiz and they will then be certified in the Beef Quality Assurance program.

Llewellyn said so many of the ranchers are already great at taking care of the animals, but new regulations are coming.

“As we move forward, the consumers and food service and beef processors and so forth, it’s going to be more important because they are going to require that best production practices are in place.”

Registration is not required, but appreciated and you can do so by contact Don Llewellyn at the WSU Benton County Extension office.

The workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00.
