Memorial Day weekend is often considered the unofficial beginning of summer, and this weekend looks to be great to break out the barbecue to grill some meat.

USDA Economist Annemarie Kuhns said you are paying less for ground beef this year to make those burgers.

“That’s down to $3.55 per pound. That’s a saving of 27 cents per pound.”

Last year ground beef was $3.82.

When it comes to steak, Kuhns has more good news.

“We have some prices for steak, it’s USDA Round boneless; we have a savings of 45 cents per pound.”

Last year steak was $6.03 per pound and it’s dropped to $5.58.
