The Agriculture community is known for its generous heart and willingness to help those in difficult situations.  But, before you click on a crowd funding account, such as GoFundMe.com, make sure the money is going where you intend.  Kirstin Davis with the Local Better Business Bureau says whether it’s a local tragedy or a national event, such as the recent Facebook murder, or the death of an Iowa farmer at the hands of a former “Bachelor” contestant, it’s vital you do your homework.

“Don’t assume that the recipient knows the account is being established and funds are being collected in their name," Davis told the Washington Ag Network.  "If you get the request from someone you know, then ask a few questions, who set it up do they know about it, and are the funds going directly to that recipient the more information, the better.”

Same kind of caution and discretion should be exercised on KickStarter, or other groups that collect funds.
