Earlier this month, Senator Tammy Baldwin introduced the Meat Small Business Innovation Act of 2024, which she said will support farmers, ranchers, and small and medium-sized processors.  The Wisconsin Democrat said the bill makes technical assistance and grants available to help improve the meat processing industry.

“This is very much modeled after that bill because I've seen firsthand how the Dairy Business Innovation Act has helped farmers and processors tap into new markets, improve their operations, and innovate new products," she noted.  "So now I want to lead the charge to use this model to help our livestock farmers and our meat processors to confront the challenges and headwinds they face.”

Baldwin noted the funds can be used in different ways, allowing livestock farmers to address their unique challenges, including access to meat processing.  Meat Small Business Innovation Act of 2024 Baldwin added would also help small and medium-sized processors “move to the next level”.

“Whether that be business plan development, workforce development and training, or market evaluation, plant upgrades, process improvements, again, it’s very similar to what we saw with the Dairy Business Innovation Act but instead for the meat business.”
