April Expected To Be Warmer Wetter Than Normal

This is spring break for many school districts across the Inland Northwest, but the weather doesn’t feel very spring like.  Temperatures across the area have been several degrees below normal, which has held soil temperatures in to the 30s and 40s for much of the Inland Northwest.  Marilyn Lohmann with the National Weather Service said in addition, the dry weather has had a big impact on soil conditions.  But she adds there is reason for optimism.

“Soil moisture was declining across much of the area, but there are several weather systems that will bring more widespread rain, to the area by the end of the week, with a very strong system to move through during the weekend.”

Lohmann added with those rain showers over the coming days, temperatures will hover around average.  She said the region could experience some windy conditions over the next couple of days, making spraying challenging.  Lohmann noted as we continue into the middle portion of April, temperatures and precipitation are expected to be above normal.
