Celebrating 50 years, the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture, among other things, is creating educational resources to address ag literacy.  Foundation board of directors member Hilary Maricle said the Foundation works to build bonds of trust between consumers and farmers and ranchers

“We really just want to help connect people to farming, make farming real, help overcome those misconceptions that are out there for agriculture. People are interested in their food right now, so if we can connect with them and help them understand why and how we do the things we do, it’s a great opportunity to tell our story.”

This year, the Foundation gave away 50 teacher resource grants, created a free Ag careers curriculum and updated the Farm and Food Facts book to provide accurate information to consumers about agriculture.

“Our kids and our adults, they’re three to four generations removed from the farm. So, we have to teach them about things that we see as everyday activities. We also want to help insure that it’s accurate ag information that is getting to consumers and our youth, because we know some of the information out there is not always accurate.”

Maricle said giving to the AFBF Foundation is easy, and tax deductible.  Click Here to learn more or to donate.
