AARP is warning rural Americans to take steps to protect their families and their farms from fraud.  AARP recently announced it was partnering with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to raise scam awareness.  AARP’s Sean Voskuhl points out, fraud affects everyone, including the farming community.

“From attacking benefits to identity theft, all frauds seek the same things, scamming you out of your hard earned money.  There are business opportunity scams that target farmers to look out for as well including a worm farm scam from a decade a go.”

Voskuhl offers these tips to help protect your farm from fraud or scams.

“Be sure to check your, your family’s and even any farm employees person information, and don’t carry your social security card in your wallet.  Keep a close watch on your credit report.  You get one free report a year on-line at AnnualCreditReport.com.  Also be sure to protect your information on-line and remember if anything sounds too good to be true in probably is,” Voskuhl added.
