2024 Hazelnut Crop Looks To Be Slightly Larger
The Hazelnut Marketing Board recently wrapped up its annual Subjective Yield Survey, and it looks like 2024 will be an improved year. With roughly 20% of acres accounted for, the HMB anticipates harvest this year to be nearly 98,000 tons. If realized, this would represent a slight increase from the 2023 harvest of 93,300 tons, and a modest increase compared to other estimates that placed this year's crop around 90,000 tons.
Altogether, just under 20,506 acres were submitted for the Subjective Yield Survey. Postcards are sent to all hazelnut growers in early July to make up the SYS, and data was collected through early August.
The Subjective Yield Survey is the only industrywide predictor for the U.S. hazelnut harvest this year.
