200K Farms Have Gone Out Of Business In The Past Decade, Duvall Stresses
After the Senate Agriculture Committee voted to advance their Farm Bill legislation to a full Senate vote, American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall called the move an important step forward. Duvall stressed farm country needs lawmakers to get the legislation across the finish line.
“While some farm programs were updated last summer, it’s been almost a decade since Congress last passed a full Farm Bill," Duvall noted. "Farmers can’t afford any more delays. In the past 10 years, more than 200,000 farms have gone out of business. They faced a pandemic, global unrest, rising expenses and falling prices paid for the food they grow. A new, modernized farm bill will help farmers survive continued and unforeseen challenges and ensure an abundant and safe food supply.”
