Researchers at Washington State University are hosting a pear integrated pest management event called Bugs and Brews October 4th in Cashmere.

Chris Strohm said they want to present the latest findings, including the most recent data on the ovicide trial and beneficial insects.

“The issue we have right now is just the pressure is extremely high and those beneficials don’t seem to be able to keep up with the population growth of the psylla so sprays are necessary, it’s just trying to figure out which sprays we can use that are less harmful to the beneficials but are still managing the pests.”

This is the third such meeting, but Strohm is hoping they can reach as many producers as possible.

Strohm said some products they’ve seen make pest problems worse.

“One of the issues producers face is that the products are killing the beneficials and not working very well against the pests. That’s a terrible scenario.”

The event takes place at 4:00 at Milepost 111 in Cashmere.

Directions From US-2/97 drive south on Aplets Way.  Milepost 111 is the first parking lot on the right after bridge.
