Deputy Ag Secretary Steve Senske told members of the School Nutrition Association that USDA is current accepting comments on food crediting.  Crediting is the system of how much a food item contributes to a meal under the national school lunch and other nutrition programs.

"We want to hear about any kind of possible benefits or any negaties outcome to any potential changes we might make."

Those comments should be submitted by April 23rd.  Meanwhile, he talked about another interim final goal on flexibility on milk, whole grains, and sodium requirements.

"The comment period for that rule closed at the end of January. We received over 86,000 different comments on that. So, our folks at food and nutrition service are in the process of reviewing those comments they received, and we expect to issue a final rule this fall," Senske added.
