USDA efforts improve animal disease traceability continue with the recent announcement of grant moneys available for projects to, develop ultra high frequency back tags on livestock, and look at how the information from this form of RFID can work with similar devices to gather real time data.

 

"We've put out a request for proposals. We ask for collaborators to send in proposals of projects that they are interested in doing that meet the goals of this specific funding."

 

Sarah Tomlimson of the USDA's Animal and plant Health Inspection Service said anywhere from two to up to five projects should receive funding from the $1 million in grant moneys available.  Projects and related research is scheduled to begin shortly after the announcement.
