The Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services have partnered up to create more housing for recovering addicts.

"Transition housing is an issue we hear about in so many rural communities. So here, we've been able to really explore what are some of the creative options that we have, using some of the assets and programs in USDA,” said USDA's Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett, back in December.

"We have a number of vacant foreclosure homes that come back to us as a result of loans that were not successful through our single-family housing program,” Hazlett added.  “And here, we've been able to find a way to get those into the hands of non-profit organizations that are working with individuals in drug treatment and recovery."

Under the new partnership, non-profit organizations that acquire a USDA property will convert it to transitional housing for recovering opioid addicts.
