Last week, the USDA held the department’s final Equity Commission meeting.

“Our programs are only as good as they do reach people, and that's what this work, this work of equity, which is for everyone is all about,” said Deputy Agriculture Secretary, Xochitl Torres Small.  She noted the work of the Equity Commission, including a final report of recommendations issued this past February and actions implemented from such recommendations.

“We acknowledged these issues were raised, took their recommendations, and we committed to holding ourselves accountable," Torres Small continued.  "We talked about the systems we'd set up to make sure that we did just that and following the summit in partnership with our Equity Commission members, we held eight different equity convenings all across 5 regions. Which reached 2,100 people across the country.”
