The U-S Agriculture Secretary thinks veterans are one group in society that should seriously consider farming.  Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue says about 50% of veterans are from rural areas and gain a goal-oriented training that works well in the ag industry.

"We've got a particular group in the USDA that their specific mission is to outreach to veterans transitioning out of our armed services," said Perdue.

Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue adds that it can be very therapeutic work.

"Particularly for those who come out physiologically-harmed or experientially-harmed through their experiences there, farming can be a sociological therapeutic industry, but also they give back a lot, they bring a lot of talent there," said Perdue.

Perdue spoke recently about the program at a town-hall in Pennsylvania last week.
