National Homeownership Month is underway, and as Rural Housing Service Administrator Joaquin Altoro pointed out, "Not many folks know that USDA and Rural Development has the housing arm."

Altoro said a diverse range of housing programs under the Rural Development Mission Area covers aspects such as single and multi-family housing, rental assistance and home repair. And during the month, state and local rural development offices will be generating awareness of various offerings.

"From visiting multi-family, affordable rental units and letting folks know there's this really, really good relationship between Rural Development and the owners of these properties.  There is home buyer counseling education, where they're partnering with non-profit organizations, providing the counseling education and then we're there to make sure folks know, then, about our products."

Information is also available online at Rural Development's Website.  Click on the programs and services tab on the homepage to find links to various rural housing programs.
