There is no Secretary of Agriculture yet as Sonny Perdue’s confirmation hearings are still to be done, but that doesn’t mean President Trump’s administration is not discussing agriculture.

The Special Assistant to Trump on ag, Ray Starling, said they have four priorities, one of which is trade.

“Given the American farmers impressive ability to increase productivity and output at a rate much higher than we actually need to consumer here within our country, our farmers have to have access to foreign markets.”

Other priorities include access to reliable work source and improving rural infrastructure.

Starling spoke at a National Ag Day event and noted the farmers and ranchers are often overcoming administrative challenges.

“We have to halt the regulatory onslaught. For years our farmers and ranchers have been the victims of one regulatory proposal after another.”

Perdue is expected to be in front of the Senate beginning on Thursday.
