Ag Under Secretary for Trade Ted McKinney just concluded a trade mission to Guatemala and said there were representatives from 34 Ag and business trade groups, plus officials from seven state ag departments.  McKinney said there were about 450 business meetings during  Central America trip.

"These were not just "Hi, how are you, nice to meet you", I mean they were really, really doing business. And, some contracts were written, and that's what we want. The current projections, based on feedback from our customers, is that business would total nearly $30 million."

Which would be the second-largest yield from a trade mission.  McKinney said he is excited about the future opportunities to sell products in that part of Central America.

"I am equally enthused about the opportunity for products from this region to come to the U.S., notably in the off-season."

McKinney noted that trade must be a two-way street to be successful.
