Sweetheart Cherries Surpass Bings

There is a new top dog in Northwest cherries.

Good Fruit Growers says that cherry producers shipped 130,000 more boxes of Sweetheart cherries than they did of Bing.

Northwest growers shipped nearly 3.5 million boxes of Sweetheart cherries while shipping 3.36 million boxes of Bing.

Bing has been historically dominant, but B.J. Thurlby told a meeting of the Washington State Fruit Commission that Sweetheart is king, at least for this year.
